 Barclays Premier League
Gunners are still joy to watch as they always were under Arsene Wenger. Their attacking style of play is surely pleasing for an eye, but on the other hand you never know what will happen with them if they go down early in the game.
Gunners’ next opponents are Wigan Athletic. They failed to beat Wigan only once in their last eight league meetings, and that happened in scoreless draw two seasons ago. Wigan managed to beat them once, in cup game. 11-Apr-09 Wigan Athletic 1 - 4 Arsenal 06-Dec-08 Arsenal 1 - 0 Wigan Athletic 11-Nov-08 Arsenal 3 - 0 Wigan Athletic 09-Mar-08 Wigan Athletic 0 - 0 Arsenal 24-Nov-07 Arsenal 2 - 0 Wigan Athletic 11-Feb-07 Arsenal 2 - 1 Wigan Athletic 13-Dec-06 Wigan Athletic 0 - 1 Arsenal 07-May-06 Arsenal 4 - 2 Wigan Athletic 24-Jan-06 Arsenal 2 - 1 Wigan Athletic 10-Jan-06 Wigan Athletic 1 - 0 Arsenal 19-Nov-05 Wigan Athletic 2 - 3 Arsenal
So, on the paper Arsenal should win this one comfortably.
Wenger will be without several players for this match. First choice keeper Almunia is out and will be replaced by youngster Vito Mannone, while Arshavavin, Djourou, Fabianski, Nasri, Walcott and Vela are all also out. Good news is that van Persie could be back after knee injury and Denilson could also be ready for a return.
Wigan Athletic has no injury or suspension worries, so boss Roberto Martinez has all his players available.
Arsenal went two goals down against Belgian side Standard in Champions League match in midweek and it looked like another night mare for Wenger’s side, after two straight defeats in Premier league against teams from Manchester. The fact is that Arsenal allowed too many cheap goals lately, so both teams to score @2.10 Paddy Power looks like nice bet.
