Premier League
The standout value bet of this weekend’s top flight action sees a Blackpool side, buoyed by their 4-0 drubbing at Wigan Athletic last week, visit Arsenal. The Gunners failed to impress at Liverpool last Sunday, and were lucky to escape with a point due to Pepe Reina’s injury-time howler. With memories of Hull City’s 2-1 win at the Emirates in their debut season still fresh in the mind, the 16/1 @ William Hill on an away win is an amazingly generous value bet.
Tottenham Hotspur will look to put their nightmare trip to Young Boys in midweek behind them and take the three points at Stoke City. Spurs were unlucky not to win on opening day, with an inspired Joe Hart keeping them at bay, but should find no difficulty this week at the Britannia Stadium with scoring goals, and 6/5 @ bet365 on the away win is too good to turn down.
Everton started poorly last week with defeat at Blackburn Rovers, but should be taken to bounce straight back with a comfortable home win against Wolverhampton Wanderers. The double result of Everton winning at Half Time and Full Time at 6/5 @ Blue Sq should be jumped on, as well as the 5/6 @ Blue Sq on there being over 2.5 goals.
Championship
Leeds United gained their first point of the new season last week at Nottingham Forest, and can be expected to build upon that with a home win over Millwall this weekend. This Leeds team is a real threat for a promotion place this season, and despite Millwall’s good start to the season, the 5/4 @ bet365 for a home victory seems the way to go here.
Adel Taarabt has two goals to his name this season in the league already, in as many matches, and at 5/1 @ bet365 to open the scoring, is a very sound bet. Taarabt is far to good a talent to be playing the Championship for much longer, and with him also taking the penalties for QPR, expect him to be there or thereabouts against Scunthorpe United this weekend.
Hull City and Watford have both had decent starts to their campaigns, and meet his week at the KC Stadium. Hull have won their only home game so far this season, and Watford have a 100% away record to boot away from home, leaving the 23/10 @ William Hill for the draw a standout bet.
League One
Swindon gained a creditable 2-2 draw at Hartlepool United last week, and will be looking to follow that up with a win at home to Brentford this weekend. Neither team has set the world alight yet this season, with a grand total of one point between them so far, but with Brentford having lost two out of two, take the Reds to make that three out of three at 10/11 @ Paddy Power.
League Two
Torquay United welcome Bradford City to Plainmoor this weekend and this game has draw written all over it. Torquay have started the season impressively, with two wins out of two, and no goals conceded. However, Bradford, under Peter Taylor, bounced back from an opening day defeat well last week, and will provide Torquay with a stiff test. The draw at 12/5 @ Blue Sq is not to be missed.
Finally, Rotherham United host Cheltenham Town and this game promises goals. Both teams have started the season well, and have been involved in high scoring games, and so the 1/1 @ bet365 for the game to contain more than 2.5 goals is a hugely seductive value bet.
